Utopias 8K Race: A New Sports Symbol

In Mexico City, a new symbol in sports has been born with the Utopías 8K 2025 Race, according to statements by Pablo Yanes Rizo, head of the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SECTEI) of Mexico City. This event, announced by the head of government, Clara Brugada, will take place annually, covering peaceful territories and culminating in a different Utopia at each edition.

The starting signal for the runners was given by Yanes Rizo, accompanied by Raúl Basulto Luviano, secretary of Urban Works and Services, and Javier Hidalgo, head of Pilares. On behalf of the head of government, Yanes congratulated all competitors for inaugurating a new tradition that promotes sports, recreation, coexistence, and well-being in the city.

Basulto Luviano mentioned that each borough will have a Utopia, with SCOP being the one to be built in Benito Juárez, and another will also be built in Magdalena Mixhuca. These new constructions will join the existing ones, with the aim of reaching 100 Utopias in the capital.

The Utopías race started past 7 in the morning, with more than 20,000 runners departing from the corner of Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas and Eje 4 Sur. Two and a half hours later, the authorities of the capital government and the mayor of Iztacalco awarded the winners of each category, among whom are Armando Cabrera Aguilar and Mariana Monserrat Ledesma Arévalo in the male and female categories aged 18 to 35 years, respectively. In the wheelchair category, the winner was Guillermina Hernández Olvera.
